Options - The template editor caret is invisible in a custom Visual Studio color theme

created 8 years ago

When editing a template, the caret doesn't appear in the editor anywhere. This makes it very hard to tell where your typing is going to go. If you type everything at once then it is fine but if you switch to another window and back you lose all context of where it is. Even clicking inside the editor doesn't show anything. You have to select something in the editor before you'll know where the caret is.

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for pointing out this issue. I tried to reproduce it using the steps you provided but my attempts were unsuccessful. On my side, the caret disappears when another window is activated and Visual Studio is deactivated. But when I activate Visual Studio again, the caret appears in the previous location. I have recorded a screencast which illustrates this behavior on my side and attached it to this comment.

To help us to reproduce the issue, please provide us with a screencast illustrating the problem in action, so that we can examine exactly what actions lead to the problem and then try to repeat them locally. For instance, you can capture it using the free Jing tool from TechSmith.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

I have identified the issue I believe. I use a theme created using the Theme Editor extension. In custom themes the caret isn't appearing. If I use the 3 standard themes in VS then it displays correctly.

Thank you for your clarification. I have reproduced the issue with the invisible caret after installing the Theme Editor extension. We are working on it and will notify you of our progress.

            Hi Michael,

Please accept my apologies. Some changes that are related to this issue were not included in the provided hotfix. I have prepared a new build with all necessary changes : DevExpress.CodeRush.Roslyn-16.1.7.16280.vsix. Please install it and let us know whether it solves the issue on your side.
