Template Editor causing Unhandled exceptions when trying to view Visual Basic templates

created 9 years ago

Hi

Seem to be getting a lot of these when trying to view templates.  Details in the attachment.  NB the copy info button does not appear to work in the dialog that shows the error.

Just as a matter of interest how many more preview builds do you think it will take before one can effectively just use CodeRush for Roslyn on its own without having to have classic installed alongside.  I can't help but feel that having the two running together, especially since the latest preview version has slowed up visual studio considerably.

Regards

Dom

    Hi Dom,
We will examine the provided call stack and will make necessary changes to avoid exceptions.
Regarding your questions about the preview state. We are planning to release the first non-preview version of CodeRush for Roslyn in Q2 this year. It will contain major CodeRush Classic features, as long as improved functionality. However, it will not contain all CodeRush Classic features - we are porting features by priority, which is determined both by feature usage statistics and customer requests.
Shortly after Visual Studio 2015 Update 2 was released, some users experienced slowdowns as described in this StackOverflow discussion:

    PS
It would be great to know why you are using both CodeRush Classic and CodeRush for Roslyn on your machine. Is it because of missing features in CRR?

      Hi Alex

Thank you for your reply.  With regard to the question that you posed at the end, I've haad both installed largely because code rush classic did provide a degree of improved functionality with xaml that had been missing in CR for Roslyn.  It is noticeable that CR for Roslyn now provides xaml templates and has certainly become much better in the last three previews (indeed that was the reason why I had asked about running the two together, most of what I had regularly used in classic now seems to be in Roslyn.

From what I can deduce there should be a new preview version of CR for Roslyn along any day now so once that is installed I may well switch off classic altogether.

      Regards

      Dom

        Dom,
Improving XAML support is one of our priorities. JFYI, we plan to release a new preview build of CodeRush for Roslyn early next week.
