I'd say flexibility is first. The BeforePrint event right now is my very best friend. It allows me to do very complex logic to display very critical pieces of information accurately in a way that draws the reader's attention. Beyond that, the stability of both the report writer (which is excellent) and the speed of generating these reports (also excellent) is top of the list. My partner has had to generate very large reports (~600 pages in some cases) that took several HOURS to generate in the current app he's using, and then he'd have to take a couple of hours cutting/pasting/editing/moving things around to finally get a deliverable report. So far we're on track to deliver the same result in seconds.

Regarding XAF's Security - I want to compare what XAF offers to what we built in our company. We initially sought to create the same structure and the same security system layout as XAF. To complete our custom security system and replicate the feature set available in XAF, required 5 months of development for 2 individuals.

Obviously, XAF's built-in security system saves a lot of time, but what I really like about XAF's Security System is that you can hide or protect tables and associated records both horizontally and vertically. XAF's Security System also allows you to limit access to individual record columns unconditionally or by criteria. The beauty of XAF's access control rules is that they can be applied to user groups or roles.

More than one year ago I explained to my collaborators that - in my opinion - it was possible to integrate XAF's security layer with UI interface into an existing WinForms enterprise application that was 10 years old.

We successfully implemented it! It took 40 man-days of job in total instead of at least 400 if I had decided to start from scratch.

The thorough documentation and extensive support ticket system makes learning the libraries easy. The demos are a great source for programmers to learn the correct way to use the tools. They are written with best practices in mind. The large database mode for grid view makes sorting, filtering and paging a breeze. The interfaces for MVC are well-designed with plenty of hooks to extend / customize functionality. After developing with the product for several months, I would highly recommend this tool to other developers.

I couldn't go away without telling you how great DevExpress is. We are a small company with a big project for the hospitality industry. XAF helps with this and much more. We are able to deliver dashboards, KPI's, workflows, etc. And since it's a .NET app you can find solutions for what XAF doesn't do. The comments from our customers are positive and are impressed with our solution and our response times. XPO is great, our solution handles millions of records without effort. Of course, as with any database you should be careful to use it wisely (indexes, searches, how you load data into memory, etc).

The support is great, these guys go beyond their duty to try to help you. I've used it a lot during these years. At the end of the day for me it's totally worth it. It saves us a lot of work and creates great apps.

As a developer of ASP.NET and WinForms applications, I'm always looking to improve productivity. I used to build my own controls and/or download open source controls in order to have 'canned' features. Eight years ago I was in a crunch and decided to look into a commercial library. I tried a competitor and their controls wouldn't even install properly. I tried DevExpress controls and I haven't looked back since. The features available are mind-boggling. Anyone that has built reports knows how time consuming it can be. For a project with a WinForms component, as well as a Web component, I was able to build reports for the WinForms app, then simply link them to the Web app and use them with no changes at all.

Best of all is the support. Response is very timely. If I'm not sure how to approach a feature I want to add to a project, the advice is always spot on. Need to figure out how to do something that doesn't seem possible? They have a solution, with example code. On the rare occasion a bug surfaces, it is quickly addressed and fixed. I would highly recommend DevExpress to anyone.

After using XAF for five years, I can't even think of building a complex application without it anymore. It's a very powerful and customizable business app framework built upon the best components on the market. One of the best things is the fantastic support team. Every time I think that something can't be done, they clearly explain how to accomplish what I need. So thanks again to everyone involved. We've used DevExpress Controls for a few years now and are more than happy with it. It has everything we need and more regarding functionality. There's never been a problem we can't solve with DevExpress. It saves us a lot of time and helps us make a good impression on our customers.

Now we are developing with ASP.NET core and need some special controls like Select and Tag Boxes for our search pages. We evaluated both free and paid controls with various different companies and decided to use DevExpress for better functionality and mobile support. I was using your competitor's WinForms controls and got tired of the problems. As an example, I use data tables to bind my grids. I noticed that search filtering wasn't working and was told I had to convert my data table to a dynamic object for search filtering to work. Then I realized that using a dynamic object as a data source causes exceptions when sorting columns that contain null values. It just seemed like fixing one problem created another. So I looked around at other options and was very impressed with DevExpress. Overall your controls just seem more solid and feel more professional. I love your grid control with its multiple view options. I love that so many features are built in to the grid like the end-user conditional formatting GUI. I was able to simplify a lot of my code. While I was converting my controls to DevExpress controls, there was definitely a learning curve, but it paid off. Most of the time when I had a question I was able to find a solution in an existing support case. I look forward to learning more about your controls and implementing them in my application. Finally, I like the fact that I wasn't nagged by a sales person during my trial period.

We chose DevExpress for WPF and MVVM because of the huge range of possibilities it offers. Although we do not need all of them from scratch, over the time new requirements came up and DevExpress already had a solution for them. Most of our questions were answered by the knowledge base or in support-tickets or example projects from other users. Just in a few cases we had to submit new support tickets, which were answered quickly and satisfactorily. We just have to use the code from the sample project the support team provided. In direct comparison to other really expensive toolkits, DevExpress provides the best support by far. Furthermore, updates are published regularly with excellent Release Notes, including user requests very often. I really appreciate the work of the support team and the whole DevExpress team providing such good tools and support.

Why did I choose DevExpress? Here is the answer. Before paying for your product, I've made an intensive research for my project. I have looked into many different companies but DevExpress was beating them all for my needs in terms of diversity of WPF tools and the quality of them. Also having the new "Diagram" tool with the package and the very good MVVM framework was the icing on the cake for me to go for DevExpress. However, all this was the initial selection. I have downloaded the 30days free trial and start using it. I had to go to your knowledge base and documentation and I have found it excellent. I could find most of my answers. All the questions (tickets) were answered professionally and most of the time accompanied with some examples. This I would call a very good customer support. Back in 2009 I was facing a new project where I had to choose a component library. My first thought was that choice will be hard. In the end I quickly narrowed it to only few libraries. Even then, DevExpress was easy choice. Ever since, I was in luck that companies that I worked for had purchased DevExpress library, and used it for their projects.

Speed of development (after quickly getting used to DevExpress component library), is very very fast. Beside components, there is a whole bunch of other projects which are also very good, like DevExtreme, CodeRush and others. I must mention that CodeRush will further more increase effectiveness of developer, even allowing them to very easily extend it and implement their custom plugins. I use it and would recommend it to every developer to give it a try.

Support is also very good. Answers we get are very fast and usually very helpful and problem solving. Sometimes some things are misunderstood, but after a demo we get the directions what to do. I had very positive experience where I submitted a ticket for the area, I'm sure, that few are using. DevExpress support made an exception and squeezed in this fix in next release. I use this opportunity to say thank you guys once again.

I stumbled across DevExpress and tried out the XAF framework. To say I was blown away would be an understatement! I was simply amazed at the ability to define my data model and have the basic UI for CRUD created automatically. With every new feature I discovered, I was more amazed. This is just a note per my experience with the Dashboard. Having finished an ASP.Net project using your controls (for the first time) I went ahead and got the Universal subscription; mainly for my own use. Getting up to speed on the Dashboard was definitely easier having used your controls, but it still took a couple of hours to understand the concepts. Once there, however, it was obvious how powerful, fast and easy it is. Truly awesome. I could go on, but suffice it to say that you guys rule. Seriously.

My company recently decided to do more development using the DevExpress XAF/XPO framework. We have worked with DevExpress controls for many other business needs to ease the burden on developing in .NET, so it was pretty straight forward to move to XAF/XPO. There is a learning curve, but for the most part the tutorials and demos answer many questions. However, on a couple occasions I just couldn't get it figured out. I contacted the DevExpress support, expecting at least a few days delay, if not weeks. However, I was pleasantly surprised in the quickness of their responses. The answers were quick, and to the point to allow me to easily implement what was needed. It's a joy to work with DevExpress controls, and now, it's been a joy to work with their support team! Thanks to DevExpress a lot of the frustrations in software development are removed.

I'm working with the DevExpress controls from 3.5 years. DevExpress has some really cool UI controls and binding the data to these controls are very impressive. I liked the idea of repository Items too. From couple of weeks, I'm working with the new control DiagramControl. Since this was a new control, I had lots of questions about its functionality. DevExpress provides a vast library of components with so much capability that it would be daunting to learn all the features of even a small subset of them. Busy developers don't have time for that, and so arguably the most critical aspect of what makes DevExpress so worthwhile is the support team. Not only will the support team quickly tell you how to accomplish a particular task, but they will also suggest new and better approaches to accomplishing your overall goal by pointing out features or components you weren't even aware of. It's hard to overemphasize the value of having an extended team of DevExpress experts on hand.

I call DevExpress development tools the wonders of software development in this present age and ages to come. The tools are so amazing and excellent ranging from the UI Presentation Components to Reporting Tools to IDE to Productivity tools and business Application Framework. We have searched for an add-on for a WinForms application for a large customer project. The focus was on a fast grid with enhanced functionality, special gauge controls (like traffic lights and tachometer), and controls with a good look and feel in common. We have bought DevEpress and were not disappointed. The properties and events are not self-explanatory / logical (for us) in every case, but we have found everything we need (and that's the most important).

The XtraGrid is really stunning (and alone worth the price). It is:

Very fast. Very complete functionality (everything that is needed is built in). Usable, and fully dynamic (serve from code) without problems (set a datatable or a list as datasource and format it in code). All needed events are there.

We use the XtraGrid on almost every form in the application (query forms but also administration forms)

Also the text editor saves a lot of time for plausibility checks. The all-in-all look-and-feel (picture buttons, tab-control, checklistbox, and so on) behavior of the controls is an important success factor for the user acceptance. There is a big difference between the look-and-feel of a standard WinForms application and a DevExpress powered window forms application.

Further, the DevExpress support stuff is really stunning. We develop since over 20 years - best support ever. In almost every case we had feedback in a few hours and the support don't give up until a problem is solved. We only wished we had bought earlier as we can save a lot of time with it and reach a better user acceptance with it.

On my development team I found that DevExpress acts as a major workforce multiplier. Through its neat and effective design the software is worth about two mid-level programmers by providing quick, stable and elegant solutions to both my every day and niche programming requirements. If we had to write the components provided by DevExpress from the ground up when we needed them, I'd have to have two programmers sitting down doing just that all day long! In addition, through its unrivalled and superbly capable support team, it's like having this friendly, highly-skilled software expert right on my own development team! Simply raise a support ticket and a well-designed solution to the question promptly lands on my desk, or sometimes one is simply gently guided by expert hands to plug the holes in your understanding of the vast library of DevExpress components. While still evaluating a trial version of the product, I raised a query with the support team, they discovered a minor software glitch which caused the problem, and within a week I received a hotfix that solved the issue! Try and beat that for professionalism and service!

On a small development team like mine I could never afford a person with the level of technical expertise even approaching those embodied in the DevExpress support team, yet I have that service available as part of the annual DevExpress subscription. I have simply never received more value than this for a mere $900!
