Excel crashes when using Excel's 'Text to Columns' functionality in the exported file

created 7 years ago (modified 7 years ago)

Hello,

We have been using your DevExtreme Data Grid (Angularjs approach) in all the applications we build in house, but we are experiencing issues in Excel with the files we export using the grid, when Excel's "Text to Columns" functionality is used. Below I send you the steps to reproduce the crashing.

  1. Highlight a column
  2. Under Data, select "Text To Columns"
  3. Click Finish - Excel crashes

Do you have any fix to resolve this issue?

Thank you.

We have fixed the issue described in this ticket and will include the fix in our next maintenance update. To apply this solution before the official update, request a hotfix by clicking the corresponding link for product versions you require.

Note: Hotfixes may be unavailable for beta versions and updates that are about to be released.

    Additional information:

    Hi,

Having thoroughly examined this issue, we concluded that it is specific to MS Excel as we already mentioned in the context of the ASPxGridView control for ASP.NET: T252593: ASPxGridView - The "Text to Columns" option doesn't work for an exported Excel document produced by Excel Data Aware Export. The next version of the dxDataGrid widget will include a similar option: export.ignoreExcelErrors. You will need to set it to false until Microsoft fixes the issue, mentioned here: T252593: ASPxGridView - The "Text to Columns" option doesn't work for an exported Excel document produced by Excel Data Aware Export.
