Localization Tool - Usability improvements

created 10 years ago

I was working in translation for all texts to Arabic Language for continues 7 days, I export my the translations, I don't know what's happened is it windows update or something else, but I found everything is closed, and when I opened my project I found out that I lost all translations, when I tried to import from the exported files, I found It was only exporting the selected row and not the whole translations or changes.

I have to begin from scratch again, I hope you add auto save for this dialog and when exporting it shall make all changes by default instead of selected items.

other than that why you don't make a community or shared translation which will make this task much much better for everyone in the world. and I am ready to contribute by arabic translation for XAF.

Thanks

We have implemented the functionality described in this ticket. It will be included in our next update(s).

Please check back and leave a comment to this response to let us know whether or not this solution addresses your concerns.

Additional information:

We have extended the Export command with a new item allowing you to export all the records. This is now the default choice, in addition to the other option of exporting the currently selected record only.
We also provided a separate Save button in this dialog to make saving translated items more atomic.

    Hello Basil,

I sincerely regret to hear of your experience, but, to be honest, not saving or checking in your changes into the version control system for a week looks like an exceptional and unexpected situation. Regardless, we will take your input on the auto-save functionality into account.

As for the export dialog, we are going to redesign it as follows in the next minor update: the default item of the SingleChoiceAction will be 'All', which will export everything by default. There will also be two more items (Modified and Selected), and Selected will be the last in the drop-down menu. Finally, this drop-down menu will always be expanded when clicking on the button without executing the default command as before so a user always makes a conscious decision.
What do you think of this improvement?

As for your last question, I explained this in my answer to Localization - Provide a way to submit custom translations of standard XAF modules and get back satellite assemblies (in fact, we had a way to share XAF-specfiic translations, but then stopped to maintain it as there were only a few contributions). Nevertheless, we will count on you for the future and you are also free to share your translations in that ticket for others.

with 10 on the screen and always when I change the page and found the same records in every page is really disappinting, and contribution is really not easy like that, and very very time consuming with very low results.
        <<
Would you please elaborate a bit more on this? If possible, please record a short video or attach screenshots.

Hi Dennis, the last update for the localization contribution is becomes more stable and more records to show up to 100, and the pages does not shuffle every time I save.
but I think bulk upload my translations is much better and easy for us to contribute with my language, I did a very mass work on that especially for XAF and controls linked to it, and that is very time consuming, and after I finish I will upload them all.
and if you put a Button on the Localization tool with (Contribute or Upload) and will upload all changes it will be much much better.
          best regards,
